Earlier this year, in partnership with #Dezeen, we launched the Start Something Powerful Competition – a global contest that called for pioneering proposals that could have a powerful impact on how people live over the next 100 years.
The winners are in. First place goes to South Korean designer Hanju Seo with his Earthcode project, a tree identification system for carbon tracking. By blending AI with traditional tree identification methods, Seo’s handheld scanner creates unique “Bark-Codes,” making carbon credit verification more accurate and secure.
Second place was awarded to Rehan Petit’s Bio-Fender proposal to cleanup oil spill using repurposed boat bumpers, while Matthew Pratt’s subterranean desert sanctuaries won third place.
