“Reunion”: Episode 9 of 9:11 Magazine is all about spectacular reunions. Five very different stories about extraordinary people, legendary cars and unforgotten races. And dreams that come true – or not …

Rod Emory [00:18] lives for Porsche. He made his comeback as a race car driver at the Rennsport Reunion 2018 – in a restored Porsche 935 whose storied career had already taken it to the Nürburgring in 1977 and the 1978 running of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. For Rod Emory, it was a dream come true.

The Rennsport Reunion is one of the most important gatherings for the Porsche family worldwide. And the sixth edition of the event in Monterey, California, was indeed a grand reunion of many famous sports cars and race cars, as well as renowned figures from the racing scene. Chapter 2 [02:30] provides some amazing impressions from Laguna Seca.

Chapter 3 [02:58] is dedicated to the biggest surprise at the Rennsport Reunion 2018. As a gift to motor racing fans all around the world, Porsche presented the new edition of a legendary race car – the new 935: Porsche aims to fire up the club racing scene with a limited run of 77 units. Exterior designer Grant Larson, 935 project owner Kay-Alexander Breitbach and Matthias Scholz, overall project manager for GT customer racing, describe the development steps of the new 935 and present its design highlights in detail.

The best of its kind – says rally legend Walter Röhrl of the Porsche 911 SC. Chapter 4 [05:12] looks back at the legendary 1981 running of the Rallye Sanremo, in which Röhrl mounted a spectacular chase to the cusp of victory before a defect stopped him in his tracks. 30 years later, the only German world rally champ started the Targa Tasmania in the same car. Röhrl was denied victory again, but this 911 is still, says Röhrl, “the best rally Porsche I’ve ever driven.”

The rematch: 30 years after their first contest, Rötger “Brösel” Feldmann and his “Red-Porsche-Killer” once again faced off against Holger “Holgi” Heinze and his red Porsche 911. The venue was once again Hartenholm airfield in the far north of Germany. Chapter 5 [06:58] shows the rematch of a legendary race, with a surprising winner.
